Buku pelajaran Sejarah Kebudayaan Islam untuk Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Kelas XI ini disusun berdasarkan kurikulum madrasah sebagaimana tercantum dalam Keputusan Menteri Agama RI No. 183 Tahun 2019, yang dalam implementasinya berpedoman kepada Keputusan Menteri Agama No. 184 Tahun 2019. Pengembangan dari kurikulum 2013 diharapkan akan lebih mampu mempersiapkan peserta didik yang disamping taat melaksanakan kewajiban beragama, juga mampu mengekspresikan pemahaman agamanya dalam hidup bersama yang multikultural, multietnis, multifaham keagamaan dan kompleksitas kehidupan secara bertanggung jawab, toleran dan moderat dalam kerangka berbangsa dan bernegara Indonesia. Dari segi aspek penyajian, kurikulum baru ini masih tetap berbasiskan kompetensi, dengan memberikan perhatian yang seimbang terhadap tiga aspek: afektif (sikap spiritual dan sikap sosial) kognitif dan psikomotorik, yang harus diperhatikan dalam penentuan tujuan dan penilaian pembelajaran, seperti pada kurikulum 2013 yang lalu. Buku ini terdiri atas 9 Bab. Setiap bab diawali dengan menyebutkan Kompetensi Dasar (KD), tujuan pembelajaran, indikator pembelajaran, peta konsep, mengamati dan bertanya, terutama dengan media gambar. Kemudian materi utamanya itu uraian dari judul atau pokok bahasan Bab tersebut, beserta rangkumannya, dan diakhiri dengan latihan terkait materi pelajaran itu. Termasuk dalam latihan ini adalah pemberian tugas yang perlu dilakukan peserta didik baik secara mandiri ataupun kelompok. Latihan juga diberikan pada akhir semester ganjil dan semester genap serta penilaian akhir tahun, yang sekaligus dapat dijadikan alat penilaian terhadap prestasi peserta didik pada semester yang bersangkutan. Terakhir disajikan pula glosarium dan kepustakaan. Untuk mencapai kompetensi dan tujuan pembelajaran, maka digunakan pendekatan saintifik, seperti pada kurikulum lama, namun tentu dengan metode, langkah-langkah belajar serta sistem penilaian yang disesuaikan dengan karakteristik materi pelajaran agama (PAI) itu sendiri, dan di pihak lain disesuaikan pula dengan situasi dan kondisi real di madrasah, seperti masalah keterbatasan waktu dan ketersediaan sarana serta fasilitas belajar yang dibutuhkan.
