Evaluating Handicapped Children's Early Education Programs

Proceedings of the 1979 WESTAR Evaluation Workshop, Jan. 31-Feb. 2, 1979

Seven papers from a 1979 workshop address program evaluation factors (specifically planning) in the Handicapped Children's Early Education Program. R. Sheehan ("Evaluation Strategies in Early Childhood Education: A National Perspective") summarizes the state of the art and lists seven guidelines, such as that evaluation efforts must reflect qualitative changes in children's performance. In "Practical Program Evaluation: Many Problems and a Few Solutions," O. White details the advantages of curriculum referenced approaches to evaluation, while R. Sheehan ("Measuring Child Progress: Large Group Design and Norm Referenced Alternatives") reviews other evaluation designs. M. Stevens and R. Kroth address problems and issues in "Evaluating Parent Training Programs: Some Considerations." Inservice training is the focus of "Evaluating Staff Development" by L. Lynch and V. Lynch. The final paper ("Evaluating the Impact of Demonstration and Dissemination Activities" by P. Bradley) considers components of impact evaluation studies and describes conditions which should be met before undertaking one.

Salamaat! Learning Arabic with Ease

Learn the Basic Building Blocks of Modern Standard Arabic (Includes MP3 Audio Files)

Salamaat! Learning Arabic with Ease is a new language learning book designed to open your world to the beautiful Arabic language. "Salamaat!" means "Greetings, I hope you are well!" and is usually the first word used in every situation in the Arabic-spreaking world. The first step is to become comfortable with the Arabic alphabet and the sounds of the language. Author Dr. Hezi Brosh has developed a highly successful, simplified teaching method that has helped thousands of English speakers to speak, read, and write Arabic within a short period. His method teaches many basic building blocks that are proven to work well in promoting fluency. The most crucial goal of learning a language is to communicate effectively—learning the basic sentence structures and vocabulary that you need and will use on a daily basis. Salamaat! Learning Arabic with Ease guides you in acquiring the critical grammar and phrases, so you can begin to use Arabic to carry out fundamental tasks from greetings to daily routines. Here are some of the book's key features: You learn Modern Standard Arabic, understood in all parts of the Arabic-speaking world today. You learn to read and write the Arabic script efficiently thanks to a method designed specifically for native English speakers. Particular attention is given to understanding Arabic culture and placing the language within its cultural context. A fundamental communicative approach presents each new grammar feature with an emphasis on how it can help you communicate with others. Exercises build listening and comprehension skills to help you absorb the primary sounds, meanings and sentence patterns of the language. A free audio CD with numerous recordings helps to build listening comprehension.

Studies in the History of Educational Theory Vol 1 (RLE Edu H)

Nature and Artifice, 1350-1765

This book examines key theorists in depth in order to give some insight into cultural change as reflected in their curricular recommendations and in the interplay they reveal between the two fundamental educational concepts of ‘artifice’ and ‘nature’. The essays on the various theorists – Erasmus, Vives, Castiglione, Elyot, Montaigne, Bacon, Comenius, Locke and Rousseau can be read separately but the book also forms an integrated whole, with a continuity of themes explored from theorist to theorist. The book not only charts a historical development but also reveals much that may deepen our understanding of contemporary educational dilemmas.

Friends urged its publication, and in 1527, after the death of the duchess Elizabetta, Castiglione sent the manuscript to the Aldine press in Venice. It appeared in 1528 and rapidly went through a number of editions and translations, ...
